Porthole is a GTK-basedfront-end for Portage (the Gentoopackage management system). It features a hierarchical view of packagesand supports fast searches and dependency calculations. Porthole worksmainly by running 'emerge' commands in its own terminal window, andsupports most emerge operations.
The porthole is an item used to construct the boutique prawnbroker at level 81 Construction, or the mermaid hunter suit at 72 Construction, in the surface area of Aquariums. Porthole is partially based on an earlier program called gportage,which has been discontinued in favour of Porthole.
Although Porthole is intended for use with a GTK+ (Gnome,Xfce) desktopenvironment, it has also been known to work fine under KDE. Apart fromGTK+, the only GNOME-related dependency is libglade. However, if you arelooking for a more KDE-specific portage front-end, you might wantto try Kuroo.Latest release: Porthole-0.6.0
To install Porthole on your Gentoo system, simply 'emerge --sync'. If necessary add an entry to '/etc/portage/package.keywords'and 'emerge -av porthole'
You can also download the ebuild from the link above, and place it in your local overlay, then from that location run 'ebuild porthole-0.6.0.ebuild manifest'
Then 'emerge -av porthole'
